Spotlight on innovations

What’s the first country that comes to mind when we talk about sugar? Brazil, of course. The prominent position of the Brazilian sugar industry is reflected in the trade fair world.

For many years, Brazil has been the almost undisputed top sugar producer, way ahead of other countries, with annual production outputs of between 35 and 40 million tons. It is hardly surprising then that Sertãozinho in the state of São Paulo is home to Fenasucro & Agrocana, the largest international trade fair for the sugar industry.

BMA will, of course, be there again. As a leading supplier of technology for machinery and plants, we rely on this platform for maintaining personal contacts with our customers and partners and keeping them up to date on our products and services. It is also the venue where many of our innovations are first showcased.

Last year, BMA in fact presented three new developments to visitors at the Fenasucro & Agrocana. One was our new massecuite pump for conveying highly viscous media; this has been available to customers since summer 2018. Another, the new user interface for efficient control of our E-series centrifugals; the new release 3.0 has been in use since January 2019.

Our new digital platform smart4sugar and its smart.monitoring feature aroused particular interest (please read also the article "Connected, smart, innovative"). Collecting, evaluating and using operating data: digital technologies let you analyse and record key performance indicators for profitability. The web-based dashboard provides all information on the operating state of individual centrifugals or complete stations – at any time and wherever you are in the world.

BMA Brazil is also taking the opportunity to present itself at the Fenasucro & Agrocana – introducing its new management. In late 2017, Mr Carlos Vieira took over the reins of our South American subsidiary, which has moved further inland, from São Paulo to Indaiatuba. At Indaiatuba, BMA Brazil runs a workshop for the final assembly of, for instance, centrifugals, with core components coming from ­Germany.
