Retrofitting centrifugals that are already in operation in sugar factories plays an increasingly important role. In 1981, BMA AG launched its G-1750 centrifugal, which can hold 1,750 kg of massecuite per batch. Since 1998, several hundred machines of this type, including its B 1750 successor model, have been sold worldwide. Some of the first centrifugals of type G 1750 came with relay controls, while later machines were primarily equipped with Siemens PLC control systems. In some cases, multi-speed motors were initially used; however generally the centrifugals were driven with d.c. motors. Later drives were of the frequency-controlled type. Even today, many of the machines still in operation have obsolete drive and control systems.
Since the superior quality of the mechanical parts of centrifugals has virtually become standard, and since stainless steel is used for many centrifugal components, most of our customers see a potential for improvement above all with the electrical equipment: modern control elements with user-friendly visualisation features and the possibility of connecting the centrifugal controls with the process control system, but also modern, low-energy and low-maintenance drive concepts can often be integrated without the need of extensive mechanical conversion.
