Batch centrifugals for the sugar industry and beyond

Centrifugals of BMA‘s series of batch machines are used not only in the sugar industry. The series also comprises customised versions for handling products in the pharmaceutical industry.

Optimised processes for new requirements

Last year, a centrifugal for curing betain suspensions was successfully put into service. The fillmass is characterised by very low viscosity and a small crystal size. These two factors together require a highly “sensitive” acceleration phase, as premature compaction of the product layer has to be prevented to ensure that the complete mother syrup can pass without any problems.

In order to generally provide for slower syrup passage, an additional screen with much smaller openings was placed between the cover screen and the supporting screen. With this product, optimum interaction between the curing speed and water washing, including the rate at which the wash water is applied, plays a very important part. BMA successfully made the necessary settings and optimisation adjustments when commissioning the machine.

Further projects in the pipeline

Centrifugal projects for sugar alcohols and products that are used for the production of plastics and fertilisers are in the pipeline. In all these cases, the charging and spinning processes have to be optimised in order to obtain a homogeneous product containing no lumps when conveyed to the downstream drying equipment.
