For the Tereos Group, innovative technologies and high processing capacities are not the only major factors in a company’s success: the Group also champions the responsible use of resources. With the purchase of a powerful extraction plant from BMA for its Boiry sugar factory, Tereos has demonstrated its commitment to greater energy efficiency in sugar production and fewer CO2 emissions.
Less water, greater efficiency: Tereos relies on extraction plant from BMA
Sustainable technologies for energy-efficient sugar production
Technological advances in sugar production
Technological advances and environmental responsibility go hand in hand at Tereos, a leading global sugar producer. The new extraction plant from BMA for Boiry is a driver of energy-efficient sugar production, as it uses considerably less water and energy.
Boiry sugar factory: less water consumption, fewer CO2 emissions
Thanks to the plant design, 20 percent less water is used in sugar extraction. This reduces operating costs and also significantly lowers CO2 emissions, because less energy is needed for water heating and evaporation.
Greater energy efficiency in sugar production
The global sugar industry is increasingly seeking to lower water consumption. BMA has been supporting these efforts with the development of cutting-edge extraction towers, which are in operation in sugar factories in Europe and the United States. Technology solutions from BMA play an important role in decarbonisation, thus helping to achieve greater energy efficiency in sugar production and driving corporate sustainability goals.
Extraction plants from BMA in Boiry and Dobrovice
This is not the first time the Tereos Group has invested in an extraction plant from BMA. Another extraction tower is currently being assembled at the Group’s sugar factory in Dobrovice in the Czech Republic. The extraction plant for the Boiry sugar factory is due to be commissioned in summer 2025, just in time for the new campaign.
